Making Shapes, Words and Opinions

We are continuing on this amazing journey of literacy and growth!  Kindergarten is the perfect place to see my students begin to blossom like the flowers in my garden.  Each one, beautiful, amazing and in need of an extra bit of something from this crazy teacher.  It's a reminder of how blessed I am to have a God that is bigger than what I face each day.  Here's a glimpse into our "garden" over the last few weeks.

Hope you all have a great week!

Bethany Bubbles

It's time for you to meet Bethany Bubbles!  This is the first children's book I released with illustrator, Jason Abbott in 2011 through Strategic Book Group.  The story was inspired by many of the children I taught in a small private school K/1 class.  Many of the children struggled with perfectionism.  I wanted to write a book that teachers could use to create conversations around the concept of mistakes and their value.  The result was this adorable character, Bethany Bubbles.  Jason and I will be teaming up again this year on other projects, so be sure to follow this blog and like TNPLKinder on FACEBOOK to be the first to know the details!  I'm super excited!!!

Want a closer look at Bethany Bubbles?  Here we go...

Bethany Bubbles has a problem: she thinks she is perfect and is terrified of making mistakes. When her kindergarten teacher, Ms. Honeypot, encourages the class to learn from their mistakes, will Bethany hold on to her perfect record, or will she risk making a mistake in order to learn something new?

Rabbits

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to see my garden blooming again!  Happy Spring, everyone!

Just like all of you, I am beginning to think about all that needs to be accomplished before the end of the year. There's not much time left.  Everyday I am amazed at the amount of growth there is in Kindergarten!  It's like magic.  I continue to remind them that it's a garden and they will bloom at their own time.  Here's one of my favorite books that demonstrates this concept: click here to take you to Amazon to purchase.

We are studying all sorts of wonderful things in our room, including: Spring, Rabbits, Measurement, Plants and Bugs.
Here's a peek into my classroom the last few months.  A FREEBIE is waiting for you at the end too!

Take a look at some  of our fun activities.  Find more in my Rabbits, Rabbits and (more) Rabbits pack in my TPT store.

The writing template is based on a Guided Language Acquisition Design- Sequencing Patterning Chart.

This is one of the best ways I have found to help my Kinders generate great sentences about a non-fiction topic!  Try it out!  We assign a color and motion to each one and go through them each day. The sillier you make the motions the more they will remember them...trust me!
