September Kindergarten Pocket Chart Chants and Activities

Isn’t teaching Kindergarten just magical?  I think so!  I LOVE to watch their little faces light up as they have success re-reading a familiar poem/chant.  I try to give them lots of opportunities for success and use fun pointers too!  There are real photos to enhance their reading process.  I use these poems during the first weeks of Kindergarten to set the tone for a love of reading and word work.  In this packet, you will find the following chants and word work/poetry journals:

•Goodnight (Use this poem by Linda Hoyt as a companion to GOODNIGHT MOON by Margaret Wise Brown)

•Rosie’s Walk (Use with the companion book Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchens.  I adore this book because it’s a great introduction to the use of prepositions in writing.

•Hattie’s Friends (Use with the companion book, Hattie and the Fox by Mem Fox).

•Our Clothes (This is an independent poem sung to the tune of Mary Wore Her Red Dress).  My students enjoy interacting with this text and re-building it in the Poetry Center.

•Kindergarten (This is another independent poem taken from Fontas and Pinnell’s work)  It’s a super cute poem that students can use to consider action verbs involved in Kindergarten.

Peek at My Week!

Whew!  The weeks are just flying by!  I missed posting my plans for last week...sorry.  But here is what is happening in the Emerald City this week! We are prepping for our yearly trip to the Pumpkin Patch by studying pumpkins (parts and life cycle) before we have our adventure!  I was thrilled with how much my kids knew about pumpkins yesterday as we began our GLAD inquiry chart.  Today, I will be creating an Input chart with them using realia photos and color blocking to aid their comprehension (pictures to be added ASAP).  Come Link Up with other great bloggers to see what is in store this week in their classrooms, as well!  I have included links to other printables that I will be using this week and they are FREE for you too!

Nursery Rhymes and a Freebie!

Welcome Summer! Like a lost friend, I have found you again. This year was such a blessing, (but as with all of you, I'm sure) I need time to simply rest.

The end of the year brings so much emotion. I cried the entire time I wrote out their report cards.  I can't begin to tell you how much I end up loving my precious children!  Their sweet faces as they graduate and hug me goodbye for the last time. Alas, June is just hard.  I also lost my precious Grandmother a week and a half ago.  I've yet to comprehend her loss, but I know this... I will THRIVE and live to be worthy of her legacy.  I am a product of her abiding and faithful love. She is woven into my very being.  A true testimony of faithfulness and grace.  I'll be thinking about ways that I can embrace life more fully, and would love to hear your ideas as well!  I have had time to create and publish many new printables in my TPT store found here, including Nursery Rhyme Poetry Journals!!!  Super excited to use them next year with my Kinders. In fact, I've decided to give one away for this weekend for FREE!!!

Rabbits

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to see my garden blooming again!  Happy Spring, everyone!

Just like all of you, I am beginning to think about all that needs to be accomplished before the end of the year. There's not much time left.  Everyday I am amazed at the amount of growth there is in Kindergarten!  It's like magic.  I continue to remind them that it's a garden and they will bloom at their own time.  Here's one of my favorite books that demonstrates this concept: click here to take you to Amazon to purchase.

This is one of the best ways I have found to help my Kinders generate great sentences about a non-fiction topic!  Try it out!  We assign a color and motion to each one and go through them each day. The sillier you make the motions the more they will remember them...trust me!
